Engineering, Procurement and Construction
Droogfontein, Waterloo and Bokomoso
In 2018, JUWI was honored to be awarded three solar projects totaling 250 MW as part of the Government's Renewable Energy Independent Power Producer Procurement Programme. The project sponsors and equity investors included African Infrastructure Investment Managers (AIIM), Phakwe Group, Reatile Group, and AREP.
JUWI successfully managed the simultaneous execution of all three projects, ensuring the timely and within-scope delivery of each solar plant. All of the projects went into commercial operation in 2020. This achievement was realized despite challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, a testament to our commitment to precision project management and adherence to budgetary constraints.

Large-scale construction projects in remote areas can often cause concerns for local communities. At JUWI, we recognize this and make it a priority to ensure that residents understand the purpose and process behind our projects.
Before construction commences, we establish an engagement platform that remains active throughout the project's duration. Community engagements take place regularly, guided by community leaders and other interested parties. Various structures and forums are created to facilitate ongoing interaction and open discussions on community-related matters. Some of the scheduled meetings include:
- Public Participation Sessions: One-time mass meetings to keep the community informed.
- Stakeholder Engagement Forum: Monthly meetings for continuous dialogue.
- Steering Committee: Bi-monthly/Quarterly meetings for in-depth discussions.
- Consultative Forum: Monthly on-site meetings to address specific issues.
Our commitment is to maintain transparency and foster collaboration to address any concerns and ensure a positive impact on the community.

Connecting a plant to the grid involves:
- Grid assessments
- Contract expertise
- Grid synchronization
- Grid stability solutions
- Understanding of transmission and distribution infrastructure
- Cabling and wiring
- Grid compliance and regulation
- Advanced control systems
- Cybersecurity measures
- Testing and commissioning
- Grid monitoring and data analysis
- SCADA Installation
